Travelling with children on the north coast
The north coast is an easy destination for families, but not every excursion suits every age. Under five: Ocean World, Playa Ensenada, Costambar and a short cable car ride. Avoid long drives. Five to ten: Monkey Jungle, the seven waterfall route at Damajagua, Sosúa bay for snorkelling, a short catamaran trip and horseback riding with a groom leading. Ten and over: almost everything, including the twelve waterfall route, zip lines, buggies as passengers and diving discovery courses. Practical points. Child seats are not standard in taxis, so request them when you book a private transfer. Bring rash guards, since children burn faster in the water than parents expect. Keep excursions to one per day and plan pool afternoons in between. Restaurants are relaxed about children and most will improvise a plain rice and chicken plate for a fussy eater.
