Packing for the Dominican north coast
Pack light clothing in natural fabrics, a hat, sunglasses with a strap and two swimsuits so one is always dry. Evenings are warm, so a light layer is enough except at the top of the cable car. Reef safe sunscreen is essential and hard to find locally, so bring it. So is strong insect repellent for evenings and rainforest excursions. Water shoes are worth the space if you plan to do Damajagua, river swims or rocky beaches. Bring a dry bag for boat trips and a waterproof phone pouch. Leave expensive jewellery at home. Bring a copy of your passport and travel insurance details, and photograph them into your phone. Buy when you land: bottled water, rum, coffee, fruit and beach towels. Do not bother packing a hair dryer, most hotels have one, or heavy shoes you will never wear.
