Arriving at Puerto Plata airport: what to expect
Apalo Tours · August 4, 2026

Gregorio Luperón International, code POP, is a small and manageable airport about fifteen minutes from Playa Dorada. From landing to walking out with your luggage usually takes thirty to fifty minutes.
Before you fly, complete the Dominican electronic entry form, known as the e-ticket, online. You will be asked for the QR code at immigration, so save a screenshot in case there is no signal. Passports must be valid for the duration of your stay.
After immigration you collect your bags and pass a customs scanner. The arrivals hall is small, and there are usually plenty of people offering taxis. If you have booked a private transfer, your driver will be waiting with a sign showing your name just outside the exit doors.
Pay attention to two things: agree any taxi fare before getting in the car, and keep a small amount of Dominican pesos for tips. Prebooked transfers avoid both problems.
