Cruise day in Amber Cove: how to spend it

Amber Cove sits in Maimón bay, twenty minutes from Puerto Plata. The port itself has pools, shops and a zip line, but the coast around it is where the day gets interesting. With six hours ashore, the classic choices are Damajagua on the shorter seven waterfall route, the cable car and city tour combination, or a beach transfer to Sosúa. All three fit comfortably with time to spare. With eight hours you can add Ocean World, do the twelve waterfall route or take a catamaran along the coast. Two rules for a cruise day. Book with an operator who guarantees return to the ship with a buffer, and always agree the return time in writing. And keep a copy of your ship's all aboard time in your phone, because it is earlier than the departure time printed on the itinerary.
