A weekend in Puerto Plata: 48 hour itinerary
Day one, morning: take the cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres before the cloud builds, then walk the botanical gardens at the summit. Come down for lunch in the old town and spend the afternoon on a city tour taking in the Amber Museum, Independence Park and Fort San Felipe. Evening: dinner near the Malecón, then walk the promenade while the street stalls and music get going. Day two: choose water or adventure. Water means a catamaran along the coast with a snorkelling stop, or a beach day in Sosúa. Adventure means Damajagua on the twelve waterfall route, back by mid afternoon. Finish with a sunset from the fort or a sunset catamaran, and dinner in Cofresí or on the beach in Sosúa. Book transfers in advance for both days and you will never spend more than fifteen minutes waiting for a car.
